Local legend maintains that the Deep Pen Cut is haunted by a headless woman in white who was murdered by her jealous husband.
In his book The Horseshoe People, author Dan Crowe writes that the unanimous woman’s husband decapitated her, believing she was having an affair. Her image is said to appear above the heads of those walking through the cut on Wilbur Dam Road.
Encounters with the ghost seem to have ended after the flood of 1940.
