In Haints, Witches, and Boogers: Tales from Upper East Tennessee, author Charles Edwin Price relates that underneath the bridge quickly became a favorite spot to make out. But in the 1930's, Tom and Wanda found themselves alone. Not wanted to spoil the opportunity, Tom took little notice of a lone figure walking their way, In a flash, the figure had swooped upon them, stabbing Wanda in the chest and mortally wounding Tom. Tom was able to tear away and make it onto the bridge where a car was crossing. He jumped in the backseat, and the driver took him to the hospital where he gave his report to the police; he died of his wounds soon after. The police, however, were unable to find any evidence of a murder.
Some say, very late at night if you park your car in the middle of the bridge that either the back door will open and close on its own or a chill can be felt in the backseat. Sometimes, even an indentation in the seat as if someone were sitting there.
Christy: "Do you need help?"
Voice: "Yes, I need you."
