In Greeneville, just off Highway 11E in the 600 block of Morgan Road, one passes under a train trestle. This doesn’t give many people pause to think, unless they happen to glance at some offensive graffiti, but this trestle has a sorted past. Long ago, people were hanged from the trestle, sometimes just for being the “wrong color.” Some people passing late at night report strange noises and voices that linger there. To compound matters, a macabre tree stands right at the entrance to the tunnel, staring out with what looks like a face, or even a skull, as a grim reminder of the cruelty that once took place on the bridge. 1, 2
