Rosemont

In his book Stories from Home: A Patchwork of Memories, Rodney Ferrell writes that a sad apparition is said to haunt historic Rosemont in Rogersville.
John A. McKinney was once one of the largest landowners in the Rogersville area. He built Rosemont for his daughter, Susan Coffin, and her new husband John Netherland. The couple had seven children, but tragedy struck in 1872 when 22 year-old Mollie was riding unchaperoned through the Burem Community with her finance, Hugh Kyle. She was thrown from the horse and died instantly. Susan was said to have wondered the yards for hours on end, mourning the loss of her beautiful daughter. Some people who drive by Rosemont late at night have reported seeing a Lady in White wondering the property aimlessly. Perhaps it is Susan’s spirit, still mourning the death of Mollie after all this time. Or is it the spirit of Mollie? The rustling of a silken dress and the sound of woman’s heels have been heard of the steps inside, after all. Has Mollie’s spirit come home?
