Songo Hollow

Though no exact geologic location can be found for Songo Hollow, in Ghost Stories from the American South, author W. K. McNeil claims it has been haunted since a tragic night in the 1860s.
McNeil claims that on that fateful night, an unknown assailant murdered Samuel Songo in front of his home. His wife heard the shot and rushed to the cabin door. When she saw her husband’s body, she committed suicide. There are allegations that this terrible scene plays out around the anniversary of the tragedy.
In his 2002 compendium Haunted Places: the National Directory: Ghostly Abodes, Sacred Sites, UFO Landings, and Other Supernatural Locations, author Dennis William Hauck places the location of Songo Hollow at “a large gap near Roan’s Creek in Doe Mountain” (Hauck, p. 389).
