According to Joe Tennis’ book The Marble and Other Ghost Tales of Tennessee and Virginia, the farm is haunted by the cries of two young African American girls who died of exposure. Tennis says that the girl’s parents were killed during the Civil War and that the girls ran to the barn for safety. He writes that they died there, and the landowner buried them. He concludes by saying their cries can still be heard to this day.
