In 1923, The Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio Railroad was expanding in the southern states and built a one-lane underpass on Rock Springs Road just off Fort Henry Drive that overlooks Patrick Henry Lake (also called Fort Henry Lake). As the story goes, shortly after it was built, a speeding car under a one-lane train trestle hit a woman as she was carrying her groceries home near where Fort Henry Lake now stands.
