This Erwin cemetery is reported to be haunted by a number of apparitions, they say that it is the ghosts of many murdered men.  Erwin was a big place for railroad hoboes there hitching free rides on the Clinchfield railroad.  There little place to meet was a small wooded area near the cemetery.  They would fix their meals, drink and gamble.  There games usually ended up violence and some were killed during the fights. The most murderous of these hobos was Old Dawg, who is said to haunt the cemetery and come at late night visitors with a knife. 1, 2, 3, 4
