Also known as Graveyard Hill Cemetery on the former Bumpass Cove Road that is actually in Washington County. Some say that there is a woman buried in this cemetery in Erwin who was hit by a car while walking to the church to get married. Ever since then, those who drive through the Cemetery at night report their car begins to die, especially if they try to turn around to flee.
Another story has it that at midnight, under a full moon, a couple was sitting in a jeep, and when the man knocked the jeep out of gear, it tumbled into the river. It is said that if you go to the cemetery at midnight and under the full moon and drive around the circle three times, a jeep will appear out of no where to chase you for a short distance. 1
