In a News-Sentinel article from 02/25/1994 titled "This Land Is Haunted by Ghosts of History”, Don Williams proposes that the old telephone office in Jonesborough, Tennessee is rumored to have been used as headquarters for a Union general during the American Civil War. His spirit is believed to return, an invisible force walking through the front door and leaving it open. At times, the scent of cigar smoke accompanies his presence.
