Bugaboo Spring

Bugaboo Spring in Jonesborough, Tennessee was named because it is believed to be haunted by a slave girl. The name itself derives from bugbear, which Merriam-Webster Online defines as “something that causes fear or distress out of proportion to its importance” (Merriam-Webster Online). This is a correct description of the ghost that says to haunt the spring. Two independent sources reported to the Haunt Masters Club: Tri-Cities Parapsychological Research & Investigation that the image is of a mixed-race slave girl who drown while playing at the spring and is still occasionally seen there.
