In her book Haunted Inns of the Southeast, author Sheila Turnage presents the legends surround the Hawley House, a bed and breakfast at 114 East Woodrow Avenue in Jonesborough, which is said to be haunted by a lady of the evening. The fact that only men heard the discarnate voices of giggling girls, slamming doors and unnatural footsteps on the second floor lend credence to the theory that the home was once a brothel.
