Confederate General Samuel D. “Mudwall” Jackson moved to Jonesborough in the 1820s after losing a fortune in Pennsylvania. He contacted prominent contractor Elijah Embree to build a two-story duplex for his four in the Philadelphia row style for his daughters Susan, Eliza, Caroline and Harriett. Even though three of the sisters eventually married and moved away, owners of what is now a novelty shop of West Main Street have seen apparitions of more than one of these sisters, complete in period dress.
