The paranormal activity in the cave house has been documented in Donnamarie Emmert’s 2004 booklet Haunted Historic Abingdon, Volume 1 and Donna Gayle Akers’ 2005 book Legends, Stories and Ghostly Tales of Abingdon and Washington County, Virginia. Both say that the ghosts inside include a silent “lady in white” gliding through the building, a gentlemen in nice but dated clothes and an African-American maid that silently leads visitors inside, only to disappear as soon as the door closes behind the visitors.
