The Weekly Jonesborough Hearld and Tribune reported the accounts of a hunting in the former Jackson House in 1875: Nathan Morrell and his wife were renting the home, and it seemed as soon as they moved in they noticed something invisible lived in the house with them. When they were seated in the parlor, they could hear what sounded like a man walking with a cane walking around on the second floor. The phantom footsteps would descend the stairs, then return back upstairs. Their son Elbert lived on a nearby farm and was skeptical of his parents claims, but one night he became a believer. The chair he was sitting in suddenly levitated off the ground 6 inches, then came crashing down with an unnatural bang. The family believed the tortured souls of solider's resided in the house.

The house was tore down at the turn of the century, but some report hearing a woman wailing on the hill where the house once stood. 1, 2
