Green Park Inn

The Blue Ridge Parkway Guide article titled, “Haunted Places Along the Blue Ridge Parkway,” includes the story of the Green Park Inn at 9239 Valley Boulevard in Blowing Rock (Caldwell County), North Carolina.

The Green Park Inn website sites the hotel was built in the 1880s as a self-sustaining community for the wealthy who wanted to escape the summer heat by coming to the mountains. Since it was so isolated, the hotel boasted its own post office and employed a full-time physician. For the more adventurous spirits, the evenings could be spent in a separate building on the property where they could drink at the bar and gamble their money away. The website also brags that some of the more important guests have been: Herbert Hoover, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Mitchell, Calvin Coolidge and John D. Rockefeller.

They do not publicize the local legend about the guest who has apparently never checked out of the hotel. As rumor has it, a specter can be seen and even felt on the third floor, where she died so many years ago.

Paranormal Evidence

Green Park Inn investigation report from September, 2007.

Christy: "I heard people talking. They were in the distance and they were back behind Toni. That's where the sound was coming from."
Girl's Voice: "What's blinking?" [Note: This is a reference to the electromagnetic field (EMF) detector that was going off at the time.]

This recording was taken in the Honeymoon Suite and the sound that showed up was unbidden and a little indecent.
This is one of the surveillance videos from Room 318, allegedly the most haunted room in the hotel, at the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
